The Inauguration Ceremony of the International Alliance of Academicians and The 2025 International Academicians Hong Kong Forum Successfully Held
HONG KONG – On March 21, the inaugural ceremony of the International Alliance of Academicians (IAA) and the first International Academicians Hong Kong Forum was successfully held in Hong Kong. Organized by the IAA and co-organized by the Hong Kong Association of Overseas Scholars (HKAORS), the event marked a historic milestone for global scientific collaboration.
Over 50 academicians from more than 20 countries and regions, along with 250 distinguished participants, convened to share insights on the themes "AI for Health" and "Future City".
A New Global Hub for Innovation
Hong Kong has been strategically positioned as an international hub for innovation and technology. The IAA's founding chairmanship consists of Prof. Nancy Ip (President of HKUST), and three Co-chairs: Prof. Pierre-Louis Lions (Fields Medalist), Prof. George F. Smoot (Nobel Laureate), and Prof. Xiang Zhang (President of HKU).
HKUST President Prof. Nancy Ip expressed her gratitude for the support from the HKSAR Government. "In today's rapidly changing world, the need for cross-regional, inter-disciplinary synergy has never been greater," she noted.
Scientific Highlights: AI & Mathematics
During the plenary lecture session, Nobel Laureate Prof. George F. Smoot delivered a speech titled "IAA's Future Roles and Contributions", emphasizing that IAA can play a pivotal role in harmonizing human natural intelligence with artificial intelligence.
Fields Medalist Prof. Pierre-Louis Lions presented "On Mathematics and Their Applications", highlighting the crucial role mathematics plays in addressing challenges in AI, such as neural network computing and reliability.

Parallel Forums: Health & Cities
The Forum featured two sub-forums focusing on critical global issues:
1. AI for Health: Chaired by Prof. Russell Gruen and Prof. Lei Chen, this session covered the roadmap for implementing AI in healthcare, featuring experts from Oxford, Harvard, and Tsinghua University.
2. Future City: Chaired by Prof. Hui Lin and Prof. Jian-Guo Dai, this session explored urban challenges in an era of social isolation and climate change, with speakers discussing digital twins and resilient infrastructure.
